OHF Provides Gift Bags to Oncology Families at Children's Hospital
April 27, 2015
On April 17, 2015, the Olivia Hudson Foundation distributed 50 gift bags, additional DVD's, and coloring supplies to the Oncology playroom at Children's Hospital. The playroom services children in treatment and their siblings. When asked about the event, OHF President and Olivia Rae Hudson’s mother, Rachel Hudson said, “April 17 and March 19 are very difficult days for us.” “For the past few months I've been feeling that those days should be a positive reminder of how Olivia impacted other people during her short time with us… to honor Olivia's memory and not spend the day just being sad.”
The oncology playroom was chosen because the Hudson's "remember being in the hospital with Olivia when she was first diagnosed with cancer." Hudson recounted the their first three-month hospital stay saying, “our first hospital stay was roughly 3 months. You really enter what I can only describe as a fog where everything else becomes fuzzy and you only have one focus which is to try and save your child's life. Andre and I were grateful during that time for small distractions. We experienced kindness from many strangers and it helped carry us through our daughter’s battle with cancer.”
They gave this project the name "a Rae of Hope" in honor of Olivia. Moving forward, Hudson stated that she would “love for the Foundation to repeat this and create a legacy of Olivia providing hope to other kids with cancer in the future.”
The gift bags would not have been possible without the generosity of OHF supporters nationwide. OHF would like to extend a special thanks to Rachel Nawrocki, Lisa Kearns and the Mission Valley WorldMark Resort and the Tooker family.
